Punjab Government’s flagship ration kit distribution initiative ‘MERI RASOI’ has crossed the 33 lakh beneficiary mark, with 33.86 lakh families receiving essential food kits across the state under the ongoing drive aimed at strengthening nutritional security for vulnerable households.
The scheme, launched under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, aims to cover 40.48 lakh eligible families in Punjab through quarterly distribution cycles.
Under the initiative, each eligible family receives one ration kit containing two kilograms of lentils, two kilograms of sugar, one kilogram of salt, 200 grams of turmeric powder and one litre of mustard oil. The kits are being provided in addition to wheat supplied under the National Food Security Act, 2013.
The ration kits are prepared by Markfed, while the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is responsible for coordinating distribution across the state.
Ludhiana has recorded the highest distribution with 3,86,692 ration kits, followed by Amritsar with 2,66,112 kits and Patiala with 2,37,320 kits. Gurdaspur stands fourth with 2,09,040 kits, while Jalandhar and Bathinda have distributed 1,95,614 and 1,94,449 kits respectively.
Other districts have also reported significant distribution figures, including Sangrur with 1,66,102 kits, Fazilka with 1,65,364, Hoshiarpur with 1,84,140, Tarn Taran with 1,61,253 and Sri Muktsar Sahib with 1,42,995 kits.
The government said the initiative is designed to supplement basic food grains with essential proteins, cooking oil and spices, helping improve the overall nutritional intake of beneficiary families.
The distribution process is being monitored to ensure transparency, avoid duplication and ensure last-mile delivery. District administrations, the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department and local officials are working together for effective implementation of the scheme.
The Punjab Government said the MERI RASOI initiative reflects its commitment to ensuring food security for eligible families and addressing both hunger and nutritional challenges by supplementing existing NFSA benefits.
