Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday honoured leading corporate figures and institutions at the NDTV Profit Business Leadership Awards 2026, recognising contributions across sectors that are shaping India’s economic growth and enterprise landscape.
The awardees were selected through a rigorous evaluation process by a jury chaired by Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises. The event recognised individuals and organisations whose leadership decisions have contributed to innovation, investment and nation-building, according to a statement.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Sitharaman discussed key challenges facing the Indian and global economies, including geopolitical tensions, energy market uncertainties, supply chain disruptions and climate-related concerns such as El Nino and irregular rainfall patterns.
The Finance Minister highlighted the resilience of Indian businesses in navigating global challenges, including conflicts, commodity price volatility and economic uncertainty. She said industries had continued to invest, expand manufacturing, innovate and generate employment despite difficult conditions.
Sitharaman also referred to the government’s response to concerns raised by students during recent Gen Z-led protests in New Delhi, emphasising the importance of dialogue and timely action when young citizens collectively raise issues.
Dilip Shanghvi, Executive Chairman of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., received the ‘India Business Icon’ award, while Anish Shah, Group CEO and Managing Director of Mahindra Group, was named ‘Business Leader of the Year’.
Capt Jagmohan, IN (Retd.), Chairman and Managing Director of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, was honoured as Business Leader of the Year–PSU, while the State Bank of India received the Financial Powerhouse of the Year–PSU award, represented by Chairman CS Setty.
Other award winners included Godrej Properties as Green Champion of the Year, Falguni Nayar of Nykaa as Trailblazer of the Year, BSE as Wealth Creator of the Year and Tata Electronics as India’s Atmanirbharta Champion.
Kiran Nadar was recognised with the Philanthropist of the Year honour for contributions associated with the Kiran Nadar and Shiv Nadar philanthropic initiatives. Shriram Finance received the Financial Powerhouse of the Year award, while Delhivery was recognised as New Economy Leader of the Year.
Sarvam AI received the AI Champion of the Year award, represented by its Co-Founder Dr Vivek Raghavan.
NDTV CEO and Editor-in-Chief Rahul Kanwal said the awards celebrate leadership that builds institutions, creates value and contributes to India’s growth story.
