Akhilesh Yadav Blames BJP for Rise in Paper Leak Cases, Questions Effectiveness of Anti-Cheating Law

New Delhi, July 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Samajwadi Party president and Lok Sabha MP Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday accused the BJP-led government of failing to curb examination paper leaks, alleging that the highest number of such incidents had occurred during its tenure and questioning the effectiveness of the proposed amendments to the anti-cheating law.

Speaking to reporters in Parliament, Yadav said the government should first explain the implementation of the existing Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act before introducing further amendments through the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.

“The responsibility lies with the current government. The highest number of paper leaks has occurred under the BJP’s administration. The public is aware of this, and that is why such a large number of young people gathered in Delhi,” Yadav said.

The SP chief questioned the government’s record in prosecuting those involved in examination fraud.

“This Bill amends the existing law. How many people have actually been arrested under the previous legislation? There have been more than 20 paper leak incidents in Uttar Pradesh alone. Tell us, how many people were caught? When the government and its allies themselves are involved, what can one expect from the law?” he alleged.

Separately, Samajwadi Party MPs staged a protest within the Parliament complex over alleged irregularities in donations linked to the Ram Temple. Holding placards, the MPs raised slogans demanding accountability in the matter.

Referring to the issue, Yadav alleged that those who failed to safeguard public donations could not be expected to protect the integrity of competitive examinations.

“The point is that those who failed to protect the donation box and the offerings made with faith cannot be expected to prevent paper leaks or ensure examinations are conducted fairly. Those who can trifle with faith can also trifle with the future of our youth,” he said.

Stepping up his criticism of the ruling dispensation, Yadav described the government as “the biggest crisis” behind the issues being raised by the Opposition.

There was no immediate response from the BJP or the Central government to Yadav’s allegations.
