Rahul Gandhi Steps Up Attack on Amit Shah, INDIA Bloc Closes Ranks in Parliament

New Delhi, July 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday intensified his attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged police action against protesters during the Parliament march on July 20, while leaders of the INDIA bloc rallied behind the Congress leader.

Speaking to reporters in the Parliament complex, Rahul Gandhi said there could be only two possibilities regarding the police action.

“I have only said that there can be two possibilities. Either the Home Minister gave the order, in which case he is culpable, or he did not know about it, in which case he is incompetent. There cannot be a third possibility,” Gandhi said.

Questioning Shah’s absence from the Lok Sabha, the Congress leader said the Home Minister should have clarified whether he had authorised the police action.

“He did not come to Parliament. If he has done nothing, then he should issue a clarification that he had not passed any order,” Gandhi said.

The remarks triggered strong support from INDIA bloc leaders, who demanded accountability from the Centre over the alleged use of force against protesters.

Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad said the Opposition had sought a discussion on the alleged lathicharge on protesters and questioned why remarks against the Prime Minister or the Home Minister attracted objections while comments about former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru remained on record.

Congress MP Tariq Anwar said Parliament and the country deserved to know who ordered the police action against students, adding that Rahul Gandhi had not used any unparliamentary language.

RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha rejected demands for an apology from Gandhi, alleging that excessive force had been used against protesters and questioning who controlled the Delhi Police.

Samajwadi Party MP Iqra Hasan alleged that the Opposition was not allowed to present its views in the House and questioned why the Home Minister was not responding to the issue.

Her party colleague Dharmendra Yadav also demanded an explanation from the government over the alleged action against students, saying the Centre had failed to answer questions raised by the Opposition.
