Veteran actress Meenakshi Seshadri recently recalled the record-breaking success of her iconic film Hero and praised her on-screen chemistry with Jackie Shroff while appearing on the dance reality show India’s Best Dancer.
Meenakshi and actress Jaya Prada appeared as special guests on the show, where contestants Vaidehyi and Pratik delivered a performance on a song from Hero. The act brought back memories for Meenakshi, who shared interesting details about the film’s journey and its impact among audiences.
Talking about the film’s success, Meenakshi said Hero achieved a rare feat in Chennai, where a theatre named Padma screened the Hindi film for an entire year.
“When Hero was released, in Chennai, where Hindi films were not encouraged much at that time, there was a theatre called Padma. The film ran there continuously for one year, which was a record of its kind,” she said.
She added that her relatives based in Chennai were extremely proud of the film’s success and credited filmmaker Subhash Ghai for the achievement.
Recalling her first day of shooting with Jackie Shroff, Meenakshi said the chemistry between the two actors developed naturally from the beginning and became one of the highlights of the film.
She said the first sequence of the film was shot on a forest-themed set and that audiences appreciated the romantic pairing of Jackie Shroff and her character. She added that even decades later, viewers continue to admire their on-screen pairing.
Released in 1983, Hero became one of the biggest successes of its time and played a major role in establishing Jackie Shroff as a leading actor in Hindi cinema. The film was directed by Subhash Ghai and featured Meenakshi Seshadri in the lead role opposite Shroff.
