Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the ‘Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan’ on August 2, initiating a nationwide campaign aimed at mobilising young people to support the mission of building a drug-free India through public participation.
The initiative will be launched as a Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation) movement led by MY Bharat youth volunteers, with the objective of encouraging young citizens to actively contribute to the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat while advancing the broader goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
According to the campaign plan, activities will be held simultaneously at nearly 10,000 locations across the country following the Prime Minister’s launch. More than one crore (10 million) youth are expected to participate by taking a national pledge against substance abuse.
The campaign will involve a wide range of organisations, including MY Bharat volunteers, the National Service Scheme (NSS), youth clubs, schools, colleges, universities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), industrial associations and over 125 spiritual organisations, making it one of the largest youth-led anti-drug awareness initiatives in the country.
As part of the programme, participants will take the Nasha Mukti Pledge and commit themselves to serving as Nasha Mukta Yuva Volunteers. Individuals and organisations making significant contributions to the campaign will be recognised at the completion of the 50th, 75th and 100th weeks.
Designed as a long-term initiative rather than a one-day event, the campaign will continue for 100 weeks, with activities scheduled every Sunday to sustain public engagement.
The weekly programmes will include sports competitions, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural events, art competitions, street plays and community outreach activities. These initiatives aim to encourage healthy lifestyles, discourage substance abuse and channel the energy of young people towards nation-building.
The campaign is aligned with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat, with organisers emphasising that “drug-free youth are the greatest strength of Viksit Bharat.” Through sustained public participation, the initiative seeks to build greater awareness and strengthen the national resolve to create a healthier, drug-free society.
