East Zone on Wednesday announced a 15-member squad for the 2026 Duleep Trophy, with wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan appointed captain and teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi named vice-captain for the tournament beginning August 23.
The squad features a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talents, with India pacer Mohammed Shami returning to strengthen the bowling attack alongside Mukesh Kumar. The side also includes established domestic performers such as Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shahbaz Ahmed and Anukul Roy.
Kishan will take charge of the team after impressing in recent international assignments. The left-handed batter has been in good touch, producing impactful performances at the top of the order and bringing leadership experience to the East Zone setup.
The appointment of 15-year-old Sooryavanshi as vice-captain has drawn attention, with the young batter continuing his rapid rise in Indian cricket. He has emerged as one of the most talked-about young prospects after consistent performances and a mature approach against quality bowling attacks.
The batting lineup also includes Sudip Kumar Gharami, Virat Singh, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal, Subhranshu Senapati, Denish Das and Shikhar Mohan, while Kumar Kushagra has been included as an additional wicketkeeping option.
Shami’s return adds significant experience to the bowling department. He will be supported by Mukesh Kumar and Abhijit Sarkar, while all-rounders Shahbaz Ahmed and Anukul Roy are expected to play key roles in balancing the side.
