BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Wednesday questioned Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his alleged silence on paper leak cases in states governed by the Congress and its INDIA bloc allies, accusing the Opposition of selectively raising the issue.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Thakur claimed that several examination-related irregularities had occurred in Opposition-ruled states, including Uttar Pradesh under the previous Samajwadi Party government, Punjab, Jharkhand and Karnataka.
Referring to Punjab, he alleged that five major paper leak incidents had taken place under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, affecting nearly five lakh job aspirants. He also cited alleged examination irregularities in Jharkhand and Karnataka, asking whether Rahul Gandhi would speak on such incidents or continue to remain selective.
Thakur further accused the Opposition of politicising students’ concerns, alleging that parties facing corruption charges were attempting to use the issue of paper leaks for political gain instead of addressing the problem.
Earlier in the day, BJP MPs from Jharkhand staged a protest within the Parliament complex over the alleged paper leak in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination. They demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter and sought the resignation of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
The BJP has also referred to alleged irregularities in examinations including the JSSC CGL examination, JPSC Combined Civil Services Examination, Excise Constable Recruitment Examination, JAC Class 10 Board Examination and NEET-UG.
On Tuesday, Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal had also criticised the AAP government in Punjab, alleging that the state had witnessed six major paper leak incidents over the past five years and accusing the government of failing to address examination-related irregularities.
