Pakistan’s passport has been ranked as the fourth weakest in the world in the latest Henley Passport Index, with only Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq placed below it.
According to the latest rankings released by the UK-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm, Pakistan is ranked 101st among 199 passports assessed worldwide. Pakistani passport holders currently enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to just 29 destinations.
The Henley Passport Index evaluates passports based on the number of countries and territories their holders can visit without obtaining a visa in advance or where a visa is available on arrival. The index covers 199 passports and 227 travel destinations.
As per the report, Pakistani citizens can travel visa-free to destinations including Dominica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Vanuatu, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Haiti, the Cook Islands, Rwanda, Micronesia, Montserrat and The Gambia.
They are also eligible for visa-on-arrival facilities in countries such as Mozambique, Cambodia, Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau, Burundi, Senegal, Comoros, Djibouti, the Maldives, Sierra Leone, Nepal, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Timor-Leste and Tuvalu. In addition, Pakistanis can obtain electronic travel authorisations for Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Kenya.
The latest ranking comes amid continuing challenges faced by Pakistani travellers in obtaining visas from several countries.
In recent years, Pakistani officials have acknowledged visa restrictions imposed by a number of Gulf nations. The United Arab Emirates had earlier limited visa issuance for Pakistani nationals, while several Gulf countries also tightened visa norms following concerns over criminal activities involving some Pakistani citizens abroad.
