Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) on Wednesday claimed that its Aerospace Force carried out missile strikes targeting a US air base and the headquarters of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) in Jordan, amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington.
According to Iran’s official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the IRGC said the strikes were conducted using ballistic missiles in response to what it described as attacks by the US military against Iran.
The IRGC said its operations would continue until what it called US “threats, illegal and hostile moves” against Iran come to an end.
However, the US military said it had intercepted multiple ballistic missiles launched from Iran in what it described as an attempted surprise attack on American forces stationed in the Middle East.
“At 5:45 p.m. ET today, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in an attempted surprise attack on US forces based in the Middle East,” the US Central Command said in a post on X.
CENTCOM said all Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted and added that US forces remained on high alert.
The latest claims come amid heightened tensions in West Asia following a series of military exchanges between Iran and the United States.
On July 24, the IRGC had claimed responsibility for retaliatory strikes against US bases and assets in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan. In statements carried by its official outlet Sepah News, the Iranian force said those actions were carried out in response to what it described as US “crimes” against Iran.
The IRGC had earlier claimed that it targeted US military facilities, ammunition depots and other installations in the region, including locations in Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and Iraq’s Kurdistan region.
Iran’s forces also claimed to have struck facilities linked to US military operations, including a US Fifth Fleet-related location in Bahrain and positions at Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan.
The United States has not confirmed those earlier Iranian claims, while regional tensions continue to remain elevated amid ongoing military confrontations.
