US-based semiconductor company Marvell Technology on Wednesday announced plans to invest $250 million in India over the next three years to strengthen its research and development capabilities, expand engineering operations and build infrastructure to support advanced chip technologies.
The investment announcement coincides with the company completing 20 years of operations in India. Marvell said the expansion plan includes doubling its workforce in the country over the next three years.
As part of the growth initiative, the company is inaugurating a new wing at its Bengaluru office and expanding its presence in Hyderabad. The facilities will support the design and development of semiconductor solutions for artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing and data infrastructure applications.
Navin Bishnoi, Vice President and India Country Manager at Marvell, said India has developed into a key engineering hub for the company and plays an important role in creating infrastructure technologies used by global hyperscalers and cloud service providers.
“India has become a strategic hub of engineering excellence for Marvell, playing a critical role in advancing the infrastructure technologies that power the world’s leading hyperscalers and cloud providers,” Bishnoi said.
He credited customers, partners, government agencies, academic institutions and Marvell’s employees for contributing to the company’s growth and innovation journey in India.
Marvell began its India operations in Bengaluru in 2006 and has since grown the country into its second-largest research and development centre globally. The company currently operates engineering facilities in Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad.
Its Indian teams are involved in developing advanced semiconductor technologies, including 2-nanometre process nodes and beyond, high-speed analog intellectual property, subsystem design, software and firmware development, and complete silicon engineering solutions.
Marvell said its India workforce contributes to multiple technology platforms, holds several patents and is increasingly using artificial intelligence tools to improve engineering efficiency and speed up product development.
The company also highlighted its continued efforts to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem through partnerships with universities, startups, industry bodies and government institutions.
The investment comes amid India’s growing push to establish itself as a major global hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing and technology innovation.
