Actor Ranvir Shorey has criticised the defence of abusive language allegedly used by some student protesters during recent demonstrations over the anti-paper leak issue, saying political interests should not be allowed to justify unacceptable behaviour.
In a video shared on his social media account, Shorey said those supporting such conduct for political reasons should consider the possibility that similar behaviour could later be directed against them.
“I was watching the kind of abuses being hurled. The people defending these abuses don’t realise that when the other side starts doing the same, they shouldn’t cry later,” Shorey said.
The actor further alleged that some people were backing such actions with the aim of gaining political advantage. He said defending inappropriate behaviour in the hope of a political change could send the wrong message to young people.
“The people defending this are even more dangerous because they know they are defending the wrong thing. Right now, they are doing it for political benefit, hoping a government changes. In the process, they are spoiling children by telling them such behaviour is acceptable,” he said.
Shorey’s remarks come amid a political controversy surrounding protests related to the NEET paper leak issue, during which student groups demanded accountability from the government and called for the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Following Pradhan’s resignation, proposals were made to strengthen the existing anti-paper leak law with stricter penalties and measures aimed at improving transparency. The proposed changes have faced opposition from several political parties.
Prahlad Joshi has since been appointed as the Education Minister.
Ranvir Shorey, who has been active in the Hindi film industry for over two decades, has frequently expressed his views on social and political issues through social media. He was also a contestant on the reality show Bigg Boss.
