Actress Shehnaaz Gill, known for her cheerful and carefree public image, says her transition towards more intense and layered roles is not an attempt to prove herself or alter how audiences perceive her.
The actress, who has been exploring diverse characters through projects such as Ikk Kudi and Ishqnama, said she believes the opportunities coming her way are a result of destiny and hard work rather than a deliberate effort to showcase a different side of her personality.
Speaking about her choice of roles, Shehnaaz told IANS, “I am not trying to prove anything. My destiny is proving it. God is giving me hard work. God is giving me good scripts. It is happening in my destiny.”
Her latest release, Ishqnama, is a period romantic drama inspired by a true story. Set between 1981 and 1988 along the India-Pakistan border, the film follows the journey of real-life soulmates Nimma and Nasima while exploring themes of love, sacrifice and humanity beyond geographical boundaries.
Directed by Arvvindr S. Khaira and produced by Sourabh Rana and Ravneet Kaur Chahal, the film is adapted from the book Hind Pak Bordernama. It features Jai, Shehnaaz Gill, Saurabh Sachdeva and other members of the ensemble cast. The music has been composed by B Praak, with lyrics by Jaani.
Shehnaaz rose to widespread popularity after her appearance in Bigg Boss 13. She began her modelling journey in 2015 with the music video Shiv Di Kitaab and made her Punjabi film debut with Sat Shri Akaal England in 2017.
Her film credits include Kala Shah Kala, Daaka, Honsla Rakh, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Thank You for Coming. She has also featured in several music videos and is set to appear in the upcoming project Sab First Class.
