Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut on Wednesday criticised sections of the media for supporting what she described as “unethical behaviour” during the recent protests at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
In a video message shared on Instagram, Ranaut alleged that some protesters were promoting inappropriate conduct in public spaces and said such actions should not be normalised, especially in the presence of children and elders.
“I am making this reel for the media’s friends, because I have stopped some protesters who were displaying unethical behaviour on the streets in front of children, elders and women by normalising it. We do not accept this in society,” she said.
The actress also defended the younger generation, saying she appreciated the positive contributions of Gen Z and cited examples of young people working on startups, education and family responsibilities.
Ranaut said she had supported students and young achievers in different fields but accused some media platforms of focusing on controversy for views, comments and likes.
Responding to criticism from some commentators over her remarks on public behaviour and discipline, she said freedom in a democratic society must be exercised with responsibility and within constitutional limits.
“Your freedom ends where my nose and ears begin,” she said, emphasising the need for civic sense and respect for others.
Ranaut further criticised what she called “animalistic tendencies” being encouraged among youth and urged young people to focus on personal growth and constructive choices.
The remarks come amid a political controversy surrounding recent student protests at Jantar Mantar. Earlier, Ranaut had referred to protesters linked to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) as “Generation Gutter”, following which CJP spokesperson Saurav Das exchanged remarks with the actress.
