Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Sudhakar Singh on Wednesday criticised BJP MP Nishikant Dubey over his remarks concerning India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru during a Lok Sabha debate, accusing him of focusing on personal attacks instead of discussing important issues.
The exchange comes amid a political controversy in Parliament after Dubey’s comments on Nehru triggered an uproar in the Lok Sabha. The remarks were made during a debate that had already witnessed sharp exchanges between ruling and Opposition members.
The earlier confrontation followed Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s comments on newly appointed Education Minister Pralhad Joshi while participating in a discussion on the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. The remarks were later removed from the official records, leading to protests by Treasury Bench members and demands for an apology.
Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and Kiren Rijiju had accused Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of making personal remarks and engaging in “character assassination”. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi defended her comments while criticising the government’s choice of Education Minister.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Sudhakar Singh launched an attack on Nishikant Dubey, alleging that the BJP MP does not raise serious matters in the House and instead targets respected leaders.
“He does not speak on serious issues in Parliament. Instead, he abuses and maligns the great leaders who fought for India’s freedom,” Singh said.
Singh also commented on the political situation in Bihar, claiming that the BJP’s standing had weakened and predicting that the party would face difficulties in the upcoming Bankipore election. He alleged that recent controversies, including student protests and police action in Bihar, had affected the government’s image.
He further claimed that the RJD’s support base had strengthened and expressed confidence about the party’s prospects in the election.
