The Station House Officer (SHO) of Jubilee Hills Police Station in Hyderabad has been suspended following allegations of sexual exploitation, blackmail and threats levelled by a woman.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar issued orders suspending SHO U. Srinivasulu Reddy after a preliminary inquiry into the allegations. The officer was initially placed under Vacancy Reserve before the suspension order was issued, pending a departmental investigation.
The action followed a complaint submitted by a 31-year-old woman from Sangareddy district to Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand. In her complaint, she alleged that the officer sexually assaulted her, forced her to undergo an abortion and threatened her. She also accused him of physical assault.
The woman further alleged that Reddy threatened to share her private videos and demanded ₹2 crore from her. She claimed that she had paid him several amounts on different occasions.
According to the complaint, the alleged incidents began in 2021 when she approached Ameenpur Police Station over a family dispute. Reddy, who was then serving as an inspector there, allegedly contacted her in connection with the case and later demanded sexual favours.
She alleged that he subsequently asked her to visit his residence in KPHB and threatened to come to her house when she refused. She claimed that the alleged assault took place at his residence and that she was later taken to a hospital when she became pregnant, where she underwent an abortion.
The woman also alleged that Reddy had paid ₹25 lakh to secure his posting as Jubilee Hills SHO.
Reddy, who took charge as Jubilee Hills SHO around four months ago, has denied the allegations. He reportedly told senior officials that the woman had threatened and extorted money from him.
Police are expected to record statements of both the complainant and the suspended officer as part of the ongoing investigation.
