The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded immediate conduct of girdawari for losses to standing wheat crop due to recent hail storms and heavy rain across the State, particularly in the Kandi belt including Ropar and Noorpur Bedi areas.
In a statement here, senior leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said besides compensation for losses to standing wheat crops due to inclement weather, farmers whose wheat crops were destroyed due to fires should be given compensation immediately.
Dr Cheema said it was condemnable that instead of rising to the situation and providing succor to the suffering farmers, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was oblivious to the situation. “No girdwari has been done despite hundreds of acres of standing wheat crops being destroyed.
Similarly farmers whose wheat crop has been destroyed by fires have been forced to go to government offices to present their case. It seems there is no governance in the State with the entire government machinery being used to contest the by-elections to the Ludhiana West assembly seat”, the SAD leader added. EOM
