Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje has sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission’s (KPSC) recruitment of Veterinary Officers, citing concerns over transparency and the integrity of the selection process.
In a letter addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 2, Karandlaje requested that the matter be entrusted to the CBI, alleging large-scale irregularities involving possible corruption, abuse of official position, manipulation of the recruitment process and criminal conspiracy.
The Minister stated that the allegations, if substantiated, could undermine public confidence in government recruitment and adversely affect deserving candidates aspiring for public employment.
She said the reported irregularities suggested the possibility of illegal gratification and systematic manipulation of the recruitment process. According to Karandlaje, ensuring fairness in public recruitment is essential for maintaining confidence in constitutional institutions and safeguarding equal opportunity in public employment.
Referring to Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution, she noted that the credibility of the Karnataka Public Service Commission is closely linked to the constitutional guarantee of equality before the law and equal opportunity in government service. Any compromise in the functioning of the Commission, she said, could prejudice meritorious candidates and weaken faith in the rule of law.
Karandlaje argued that an independent investigation by the CBI would be necessary to establish the full extent of the alleged conspiracy, identify those involved, trace any flow of illegal payments and examine the role of public officials and intermediaries.
She urged the Union Home Minister to intervene and order a CBI inquiry at the earliest, stating that such a step would be in the interest of justice, transparency and public confidence in the recruitment system.
