A joint team of security forces apprehended a suspect during a routine checkpoint operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday, recovering a hand grenade, a mobile phone and anti-national posters from his possession, officials said.
The suspect has been identified as Tausif Ahmad Dar, a resident of Pulwama district. He was intercepted during a “naka” (checkpost) operation near the Fruit Mandi in the Rajpora area as part of routine area domination and preventive security measures.
During the search, security personnel allegedly recovered a hand grenade, one mobile phone and three anti-national posters. Officials said the seizure has raised concerns over a possible attempt to disturb peace and public order in the region.
Police have registered FIR No. 107/2026 at Rajpora Police Station under relevant legal provisions relating to the possession of explosives and anti-national activities. The accused has been taken into custody for further interrogation.
Investigators are examining the source of the grenade, the origin of the posters and whether the suspect had any links with militant groups or over-ground worker (OGW) networks. The seized mobile phone has also been sent for forensic examination to analyse communication records and other digital evidence that could assist the investigation.
Security officials said checkpoint operations and area domination exercises have been intensified across Pulwama and adjoining areas to prevent any attempts by anti-national elements to revive subversive activities.
Officials added that continuous intelligence-based operations, strengthened security deployment and public cooperation remain central to maintaining peace and preventing potential security threats in south Kashmir.
Police have appealed to residents to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or security establishment.
