Iran President Pezeshkian Urges US to Honour Peace MoU Amid Renewed Diplomatic Push

Tehran, August 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran must ensure that the United States remains committed to the peace Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries, describing the agreement as a key pillar of Iran’s future foreign policy.

In a post on social media platform X, Pezeshkian said there was broad consensus within Iran’s Supreme National Security Council regarding the importance of the MoU. He stressed that Iran should work to ensure Washington adheres to the commitments it has undertaken under the agreement.

According to the President, the understanding has the potential to improve security not only for Iran but also for the wider region and its allies if implemented in good faith.

His remarks came as Iran’s Acting Defence Minister, Seyed Majid Ebn Al-Reza, reiterated that Tehran treats every perceived threat from its adversaries as genuine and worthy of serious attention. In a separate post on X, he said Iran would neither underestimate nor ignore such threats and would continue strengthening its military preparedness and deterrence capabilities.

The statements follow comments by US President Donald Trump, who said Washington had postponed planned military action against Iran after receiving requests from Tehran and several Middle Eastern countries. Trump claimed diplomacy had created an opportunity for a broader agreement that could include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and measures addressing Iran’s nuclear programme.

Iran and the United States signed the MoU on June 18, providing a 60-day window for negotiations toward a comprehensive agreement. However, recent military escalation between the two countries has cast uncertainty over the future of those talks.

Last month, the US launched multiple strikes on Iranian targets, citing attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes targeting US military facilities in the region, further heightening regional tensions.
