A 40-year-old psychiatrist died after allegedly falling from the fifth floor of her apartment in Ghaziabad’s Raj Nagar Extension area on Sunday, with police launching an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The deceased, identified as Dr. Hemika Agrawal, lived in the Officers City-2 residential society. According to police, residents and bystanders rushed to her aid after the fall and took her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Investigators are examining all possible angles and have begun recording statements of family members and other relevant persons. Police are also scrutinising evidence collected from the scene. Officials said they have not officially confirmed the recovery of any suicide note.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Nandgram), Ziauddin Ahmad, said police reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and initiated the required legal procedures. He said preliminary findings have emerged during the inquiry, but the exact circumstances surrounding the death will only be established after completion of the investigation and the post-mortem examination.
Family members told police that Dr. Agrawal had been experiencing prolonged emotional distress following her divorce around 18 months ago. Her father, Dr. R. Chandra, a psychiatrist based in Ghaziabad, said she had been struggling with depression and mental stress since the separation.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not yet announced any conclusions regarding the cause or manner of death.
