Amitabh Bachchan Thanks Fans on ‘Rebirth Day’, Recalls Life-Changing August 2 Milestone

Mumbai, August 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan expressed heartfelt gratitude to his admirers on August 2, a date he considers his “rebirth day” following the near-fatal accident he suffered while filming Coolie in 1982.

In a message shared on his personal blog, the 83-year-old actor thanked fans for their unwavering prayers, love and blessings over the years, saying their support had made it possible for him to continue his journey.

Acknowledging the flood of phone calls, messages and greetings he received, Bachchan wrote that it would be impossible to respond to everyone individually, but he remained deeply touched by the affection shown to him.

Reflecting on the significance of August 2, he said only a few people fully understood the importance of the date in his life. He credited the prayers and good wishes of millions of fans for his recovery, adding that time is a powerful force and that his ability to continue working today is a result of the blessings he has received throughout the years.

Bachchan also revealed that he was preparing to begin recording the latest season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), describing it as another challenge he would undertake with the continued support and affection of his well-wishers.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of admirers gathered outside his Mumbai residence, Jalsa, during his customary Sunday interaction. Fans arrived with flower garlands, bouquets, greeting cards and handwritten letters to commemorate the occasion.

The significance of August 2 dates back to 1982, when Bachchan sustained a severe abdominal injury while shooting an action sequence for Coolie with co-star Puneet Issar. The accident led to internal bleeding and emergency surgeries, with the actor remaining in critical condition for several days.

Bachchan has previously recalled being clinically dead for a brief period before doctors revived him on August 2, making the date a deeply personal milestone. His recovery prompted prayers from millions of fans across India, who gathered outside the hospital and offered prayers at temples, mosques, churches and gurdwaras.

After months of treatment and rehabilitation, the actor returned to complete Coolie, which went on to become one of the biggest box-office successes of 1983.
