India’s Ishroop Narang narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the women’s -78kg judo event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after suffering a close defeat against Canada’s C Godbout in a Golden Score decider on Sunday.
The contest remained evenly poised throughout regulation time, with neither judoka managing to score. Both athletes received penalties during the bout, but neither was able to gain a decisive advantage before the match moved into extra time.
In the Golden Score period, Godbout found the breakthrough at the 6:19 mark, securing a Yuko to seal the bronze medal and leave Narang just outside the podium positions.
Narang put up a determined display against her Canadian opponent, forcing the contest into extended time and fighting until the final moment. However, the narrow loss ended India’s hopes of adding another judo medal from the event.
The defeat added to a series of close finishes for Indian judokas at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, where several athletes have challenged strongly but missed out on podium places by fine margins.
Despite the result, Narang’s campaign highlighted her fighting spirit and ability to compete under pressure at a major international event.
