India’s expanding digital landscape is witnessing a sharp rise in cyber threats, with more than 265 million cyberattack attempts and 369 million malware detections recorded during the assessment period, according to a new cybersecurity report.
The report titled Cyber Shikshit Bharat: Building a Cyber-Resilient India, released by Indian cybersecurity firm Lisianthus Tech, highlighted the growing risks faced by businesses, citizens, critical infrastructure and government systems as the country continues its rapid digital transformation.
The assessment noted that the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) recorded over 29.44 lakh cybersecurity incidents in 2025, reflecting the increasing scale and complexity of online threats.
The report also examined cyber activity during Operation Sindoor, stating that nearly 1.5 million cyberattack attempts were observed during the period. These included distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, phishing campaigns, malware activities and website defacement attempts. Around 150 incidents reportedly led to successful system compromises.
Critical infrastructure emerged as a major area of concern, with the power sector alone witnessing nearly 200,000 attempted cyber intrusions. Telecom networks, government systems and other strategically important sectors also remained targets of sustained cyber activity.
Khushhal Kaushik, Ethical Hacker and Founder and CEO of Lisianthus Tech, said the country’s digital growth had brought new cybersecurity challenges.
He said cyber threats had moved beyond being an information technology issue and had become a national security concern, with attacks becoming more advanced, coordinated and persistent.
Kaushik added that initiatives such as Cyber Shikshit Bharat aim to improve cyber awareness among citizens, students, government officials, industry leaders and critical infrastructure operators to help build a more resilient digital ecosystem.
