Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday inaugurated two new Schools of Eminence at Kidwai Nagar and Miller Ganj in Ludhiana, further expanding the state’s flagship education initiative and taking the district’s total number of Schools of Eminence to 16.
Addressing a gathering after dedicating the schools to the public, the Chief Minister said Ludhiana, long regarded as Punjab’s industrial hub, is now emerging as a leader in the state’s education revolution. He said the government’s sustained investment in school infrastructure, teacher training and modern learning facilities has strengthened public confidence in government schools and encouraged students to shift from private institutions.
The School of Eminence at Kidwai Nagar has been built at a cost of ₹10.62 crore over 8,300 square yards. It houses 27 classrooms, seven modern laboratories, a library, a 500-seat auditorium, the Principal’s office and other facilities. The Miller Ganj campus, constructed at a cost of ₹3.48 crore, includes 11 classrooms, seven laboratories, six washrooms, the Principal’s office and an elevator for students.
During the visit, Bhagwant Mann interacted with students, inspected classrooms and laboratories, and appreciated teachers for their contribution to improving the quality of education. Students presented him with handmade portraits and sought his autograph, while parents praised the government’s initiatives in the education sector.
Highlighting the progress made by the state, the Chief Minister said Punjab has moved from 27th to the top position in school education through reforms such as smart classrooms, overseas teacher training, improved infrastructure and enhanced learning standards. He said 881 students from Punjab Government schools qualified the NEET examination this year, while more than 125 cleared JEE Main, reflecting the growing quality of public education.
Mann said Ludhiana now has 16 Schools of Eminence, 11 Schools of Brilliance and 35 Schools of Happiness. Nearly three lakh students are enrolled in government schools across the district, while infrastructure in around 200 schools has been upgraded.
Reiterating his government’s commitment to education, the Chief Minister said quality schooling remains the most effective tool to eradicate poverty and build a healthy, educated and drug-free Punjab. He added that every child, irrespective of economic background, deserves access to world-class education and that the government would continue investing in strengthening the education system.
Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
