Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the Noida Authority after a four-year-old boy died after falling into an uncovered pump tank in Noida’s Sector-122, prompting an investigation into possible negligence by civic officials.
The victim, identified as Firoz Alam, reportedly fell into the open water tank located in the area’s green belt on Saturday. According to initial information, the child had gone near the tank to drink water when the accident occurred.
The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Sector-113 Police Station. Police have booked the concerned officials of the Noida Authority and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Authorities are examining whether safety protocols were ignored, as no employee of the Noida Authority was reportedly present at the site when the incident took place. The roles of officials from both the Horticulture and Water departments are also under scrutiny as part of the ongoing probe.
Pump operator Anil said he learnt about the incident only later in the day and immediately informed the authorities after being made aware of the child’s death. By then, the victim’s family had already taken the body to their native village, he said.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over public safety at civic infrastructure sites and the maintenance of potentially hazardous locations.
The tragedy follows a similar fatal accident reported in Greater Noida last month, where six-year-old Avyaan Surya died after falling into a rainwater-filled pit dug for boring work in the Knowledge Park area. Residents had alleged that the excavation site lacked barricades and warning signs, making it dangerous for children and pedestrians.
The latest incident is expected to intensify calls for stricter safety measures and greater accountability in the maintenance of public facilities.
