Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers and BJP president Nitin Nabin on Sunday paid tributes to Pingali Venkayya on his birth anniversary, remembering his contribution to the design of India’s national flag.
The Vice President described Venkayya as an eminent freedom fighter, a committed Gandhian and the “architect of India’s National Flag”, saying his contribution had left an enduring mark on the country’s history.
Taking to X, Radhakrishnan said the Tricolour continues to unite Indians with pride and recalled Venkayya’s selfless service and lasting legacy.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid homage to Venkayya, highlighting his “immortal contribution” in designing the Tiranga, which he described as a symbol of India’s pride and aspirations.
Shah said Venkayya’s role in the freedom movement and his contributions to various fields of knowledge would continue to inspire generations.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remembered Venkayya as a distinguished scholar and polyglot who dedicated his life to national service. He said Venkayya’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle, education and agricultural research reflected his commitment to nation-building.
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda called Venkayya the architect of the Tricolour and said his creation gave India’s national identity a new recognition.
Nadda said the national flag remains a symbol of patriotism, unity and self-respect, while Venkayya’s life continues to inspire citizens.
BJP president Nitin Nabin, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also paid tributes, recalling Venkayya’s role in shaping the national symbol.
Leaders said the Tricolour represents India’s unity, diversity and commitment to national values, while Venkayya’s legacy remains deeply connected with the country’s identity.
