Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya has congratulated the Indian contingent for securing a fourth-place finish at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, describing the country’s performance as a reflection of the growing strength and depth of Indian sport.
India concluded its campaign with 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze, despite competing in a streamlined edition of the Games that featured only 10 sports—nine fewer than the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
In a message shared on social media, Mandaviya noted that India improved its medal tally from 30 in the comparable disciplines contested at Birmingham 2022 to 39 in Glasgow. He said the achievement highlighted the steady progress of Indian sports under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The minister congratulated the athletes, coaches and support staff for their commitment and efforts, saying they had represented the nation with distinction throughout the Games.
The Commonwealth Games 2026 concluded in Glasgow on Sunday with a closing ceremony that also marked the official handover of hosting responsibilities for the centenary edition of the Games to India. Ahmedabad will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, making India only the second country after Australia to stage the event twice.
During the ceremony, the Commonwealth Games flag was handed over to Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. India also unveiled its vision for Ahmedabad 2030 through a cultural presentation led by acclaimed singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan and former Miss World Manushi Chhillar, accompanied by an audiovisual showcase highlighting the country’s sporting journey.
Mandaviya expressed confidence that India would deliver one of the finest editions in Commonwealth Games history when it hosts the landmark centenary event in 2030.
