Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are expected to witness another day of active monsoon conditions on Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across the region.
The weather is likely to bring relief from the recent spell of heat and humidity, although commuters may face disruptions due to waterlogging and traffic congestion in low-lying areas during peak hours.
According to the IMD, cloudy skies will prevail through the day, with intermittent rain and thunderstorm activity expected at several places in the national capital. Gusty winds are also likely to accompany thunderstorms in some areas, while humidity levels are expected to remain elevated despite the rainfall.
The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to remain between 33 and 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 27 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists said the showers are expected to keep daytime temperatures under check, though humid conditions may continue.
Neighbouring NCR cities, including Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, are also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, with isolated pockets expected to experience intense showers, lightning and strong winds.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious while travelling, particularly during periods of heavy rain, as water accumulation on roads could lead to slower traffic movement and delays.
Beyond Delhi-NCR, the IMD has forecast widespread rainfall across several northern and eastern states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
A yellow alert has been issued for multiple regions, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and wind speeds of 40 to 60 kmph. The weather department has urged people to follow safety advisories issued by local authorities.
The IMD attributed the ongoing wet spell to active monsoon conditions supported by continuous moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal. These conditions are expected to sustain widespread rainfall activity across northern and eastern India until at least August 1.
In Uttar Pradesh, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast for several eastern, central and western districts. Cities including Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Noida are likely to witness widespread showers, with isolated locations expected to receive very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.
The IMD said it is closely monitoring the evolving weather situation and has advised farmers, travellers and two-wheeler riders to exercise caution during periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.
