India will have another action-packed day at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Thursday, with medal prospects spread across weightlifting, athletics, cycling, lawn bowls and para track cycling.
The spotlight will be on weightlifters Martina Devi Maibam and Lovepreet Singh, who will look to extend India’s impressive run in the sport. Martina will compete in the women’s +86kg final, while Lovepreet will take the platform in the men’s +110kg final later in the day.
India has already enjoyed a successful campaign in weightlifting, securing seven medals, including one gold and five silver, and will be aiming to add to that tally.
In athletics, distance runner Parul Chaudhary will be among the key contenders as she lines up in the women’s 5000m. The Asian Games medallist will be chasing her maiden Commonwealth Games podium finish. The women’s discus throw final will also feature India’s Nidhi Rani and Seema, both aiming to boost the country’s medal count.
Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra returns to action in the men’s javelin throw qualifying round alongside Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh. Multi-event athlete Tejaswin Shankar begins his decathlon campaign with the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m scheduled across the day.
Other Indian athletes in action include Vishal T.K. in the men’s 400m semifinals, Animesh Kujur in the men’s 200m semifinals, and shot putters Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill in the men’s final.
India will also compete in track cycling, where the men’s team sprint squad will target a place in the medal rounds, while para cyclist Lisha Das will contest the women’s C4-C5 4000m individual pursuit. In lawn bowls, Navneet Singh and Dinesh Kumar will feature in the men’s pairs competition, while Nayanmoni Saikia will play in the women’s singles sectional stage.
