The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested the personal assistant to the Additional District Collector (Jaipur East) after allegedly catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a complainant.
According to the ACB, the accused, identified as Mukesh Kumar, was arrested during a trap operation conducted by the Jaipur Rural unit following directions from the ACB Headquarters.
Director General of Police (ACB) Govind Gupta said the Bureau had received a complaint alleging that Mukesh Kumar demanded ₹1.5 lakh to clear pending bills of a firm that had supplied vehicles for government examination-related work. The complainant also alleged that the bills were deliberately withheld and that he was repeatedly pressured to pay the bribe.
After receiving the complaint, the ACB carried out a discreet verification, during which the alleged demand for illegal gratification was confirmed. A trap was subsequently planned under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police Rameshwar Singh, with Additional Superintendent of Police Sunil Sihag and Police Inspector Devendra Prasad Sharma leading the operation.
During the raid, the ACB team allegedly caught the accused inside his office chamber while accepting ₹1 lakh from the complainant as part of the demanded bribe. He was immediately taken into custody, and officials said he is being questioned.
The Bureau said a case will be registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is being conducted under the supervision of Additional Director General of Police Smita Srivastava and Inspector General of Police S. Parimala.
The ACB also urged citizens to report incidents of bribery and corruption through its 24×7 toll-free helpline or WhatsApp helpline, assuring the public that legitimate government work should not require payment of illegal gratification.
