Trainee IPS Officer Arrested in Sexual Assault Case for Alleged Harassment, Threats Against Fellow Officer Trainee

Hyderabad, July 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody after his arrest in connection with a sexual assault case involving a fellow IPS probationer. Police alleged that the accused subjected the woman to sustained harassment, emotional abuse and intimidation after their relationship ended and she married another person.

The accused, M. Uday Krishna Reddy, was arrested on Tuesday and produced before the First Class Additional Judicial Magistrate of Ranga Reddy District at Rajendranagar. Following the court’s remand order, he was shifted to Chanchalguda Central Jail.

According to Hyderabad Police, Krishna Reddy had earlier served as a police constable in Andhra Pradesh before clearing the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination and joining the 2025 IPS batch. He has been undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad since December 2025.

Investigators said the accused and the complainant, who is also an IPS officer trainee, became acquainted through Instagram in mid-2025 after she responded to one of his posts about his journey to joining the IPS. The online interaction gradually developed into a personal relationship.

Police alleged that during their time together, the relationship was marked by repeated disputes, emotional manipulation, possessive behaviour and threats. While undergoing training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) and later at SVPNPA, the accused allegedly threatened to end his life, displayed weapons, abused the complainant, demanded multiple relationships and damaged her laptop during confrontations.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rajendranagar Zone), S. Srinivas, said the woman eventually ended the relationship due to the accused’s behaviour and later married another man. After learning about her marriage, the accused allegedly created fake social media accounts after being blocked, threatened to make their private chats public and contacted her family members and colleagues without her consent.

Based on the woman’s complaint, Attapur Police registered a case under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as Sections 66E and 67A of the Information Technology Act.

Police said the investigation found prima facie evidence linking the trainee officer to the offences alleged in the complaint. He was taken into custody near Aramghar X Roads in Hyderabad on July 28.

The investigation is continuing to establish the complete sequence of events and determine all circumstances connected with the case. Police said further legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.
