RSP MP N.K. Premachandran Opposes FIR Against Rahul Gandhi, Pappu Yadav Over Parliament Skit Row

New Delhi, August 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) MP N.K. Premachandran on Monday criticised the registration of an FIR against Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and independent MP Pappu Yadav over a symbolic protest staged inside the Parliament complex, calling the police action unjustified.

The FIR was registered in Varanasi following a complaint by several seers over a skit performed by Opposition MPs regarding alleged irregularities in donations collected for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Speaking to IANS, Premachandran said the protest was a symbolic expression of the Opposition’s demand for a discussion in Parliament on the issue.

“I strongly protest the registration of an FIR against Rahul Gandhi and Pappu Yadav. This was merely a symbolic form of protest held in front of Parliament. The Opposition has been consistently demanding a discussion on the issue, but the government has not agreed to it,” he said.

The RSP leader argued that Parliament has traditionally witnessed symbolic demonstrations by lawmakers and questioned how such an act could be treated as a criminal offence.

The FIR was registered at Kotwali Police Station in Varanasi against Rahul Gandhi, Purnia MP Pappu Yadav and Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad. According to police, the case was filed under Sections 196, 299, 302 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The skit was staged near Makar Dwar in the Parliament complex, where Pappu Yadav, dressed in saffron attire, participated in a symbolic act portraying alleged theft of temple donations. Several Opposition MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, were present during the protest.

The incident triggered protests from Hindu organisations, with groups including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal staging demonstrations in parts of the country.
