Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has spoken about her ideological evolution, saying she has transitioned from being a “moderate Hindu” to what she described as an “awakened Hindu”.
Ranaut shared a video on social media while reacting to discussions around her earlier political views. In the video, recorded as she was preparing to leave for Parliament, she said she wanted to share her thoughts despite being short of time.
Reflecting on the film industry and political awareness among young people, Ranaut said many individuals remain neutral on matters of ideology and religion during their early years. She added that people’s views can change after different experiences and interactions.
Speaking about her own journey, Ranaut said she would not defend herself by citing her past positions on issues such as pay parity, opposition to nepotism and her work in the film industry.
“Yes, I was a moderate Hindu. Today, I am being harassed. Since when did you become a Sanghi? I want to become a Sanghi. I want to become an awakened Hindu like BJP and RSS. I want to convert. Why can’t I convert?” she said in the video.
Ranaut further argued that individuals should have the freedom to choose their ideological path and questioned why women should not be allowed to adopt a more defined religious identity if they wish to do so.
The remarks come days after another social media post by Ranaut drew attention, in which she criticised changing social values and used the term “gutter chaap” while referring to the current generation. Her comments received mixed reactions, with some supporting her views while others criticised her statements.
