The Jharkhand Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Monday conducted searches at more than 20 locations across the state as part of its investigation into alleged irregularities in the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Civil Services Preliminary Examination.
CID teams carried out simultaneous raids in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Deoghar, Godda, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh and Palamu districts. Several coaching institutes and premises linked to individuals under investigation were also searched, including locations in Ranchi’s Dhurwa and Namkum areas.
The searches were conducted at locations connected with persons and institutions whose names emerged during the probe or who are suspected to have links with the examination process.
Investigators examined documents, computers, laptops, mobile phones, digital storage devices and other electronic records during the operation. Several documents and digital materials have reportedly been seized and will undergo forensic examination.
Earlier, the CID had searched the offices of the JPSC and examination-conducting agency TDPL, collecting documents and electronic records related to the conduct of the examination.
So far, 11 people associated with the Commission and the examination process have been arrested. Officials said information gathered during questioning of the arrested accused has helped expand the scope of the investigation.
Former JPSC Chairman and former Jharkhand Chief Secretary L. Khiangte, who has already been questioned multiple times, has been summoned again for questioning on Monday.
The CID is examining various aspects of the recruitment process, including examination management, question paper handling, evaluation procedures and other operational arrangements. Officials believe analysis of seized digital evidence and documents could lead to further developments in the case.
The controversy began after allegations of widespread irregularities surfaced in the results of the 14th JPSC Preliminary Examination. Student groups in Ranchi have continued protests, demanding cancellation of the examination and an independent investigation into the alleged malpractice.
