The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh and government jobs for athletes Yamini Maurya and Ajay Babu after their silver medal-winning performances at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026.
Judo player Yamini Maurya from Sagar and weightlifter Ajay Babu brought recognition to Madhya Pradesh by securing silver medals in their respective events, prompting Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Vishvas Kailash Sarang to congratulate the athletes.
Sarang said that under the state’s sports policy, athletes winning silver medals at the Commonwealth Games are eligible for an incentive of Rs 25 lakh each along with government employment as per prescribed rules.
The Sports Minister also spoke with Yamini Maurya through a video call and congratulated her on her achievement. He expressed confidence that she would continue to perform strongly and aim for gold medals in future competitions.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav praised the efforts of Indian athletes participating in the Commonwealth Games and said their discipline, dedication and hard work were an inspiration for young people across the country.
Yadav also congratulated Indian athletes, including Neeraj Chopra for his silver medal, Yashvir Singh for his bronze medal in men’s javelin throw and Tejaswin Shankar for securing bronze in the decathlon.
Sarang said the Madhya Pradesh government was committed to strengthening sports infrastructure, providing modern training facilities and extending support to athletes to help them achieve success at national and international levels.
He added that the performances of Yamini Maurya and Ajay Babu reflected the growing sporting talent of Madhya Pradesh and expressed confidence that athletes from the state would continue to excel in upcoming international events.
