Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain added another milestone to her illustrious career by winning the silver medal in the women’s 75kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games 2026, becoming only the third Indian boxer to secure medals across all major international competitions.
With the achievement, Lovlina joined Indian boxing legends Mary Kom and Vijender Singh in the exclusive club of boxers who have won medals at the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
The Assamese boxer settled for silver after suffering a 4-1 split-decision defeat to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree in the gold medal bout on Saturday.
Lovlina, competing in her third Commonwealth Games, had received a direct entry into the semifinals before advancing to the final with victory in her opening bout on Thursday. The silver also marked her first-ever Commonwealth Games medal after previous appearances without reaching the podium.
In the final, Lovlina showcased her trademark composure and technical skills in a closely fought contest. While she landed several clean punches and remained competitive throughout, the judges favoured Greentree’s aggressive approach and ring control, awarding the Australian the bout by a 4-1 split decision.
The silver medal further enriches Lovlina’s decorated international resume, which already includes an Olympic bronze medal, an Asian Games silver, a World Championships gold and two bronze medals. She has achieved success in both the 69kg and 75kg weight divisions.
Her latest podium finish also strengthens India’s boxing campaign at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, underlining the country’s continued excellence in the sport on the international stage.
