Actor Siddharth has revealed the extensive preparation that went into portraying an Indian Air Force fighter pilot in the upcoming Netflix series Operation Safed Sagar, saying the training focused heavily on technical precision and the realities of operating inside a MiG fighter aircraft.
The series, inspired by the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar during the 1999 Kargil War, follows the role played by the Air Force in supporting Indian Army operations to reclaim strategic positions along the Line of Control.
Speaking during the show’s promotional campaign in Mumbai, Siddharth said one of the biggest challenges was understanding the cramped working environment inside a MiG cockpit.
He explained that the cockpit is extremely compact, leaving little room for movement and limiting a pilot’s field of vision. As part of the training, the cast was taught how fighter pilots observe their surroundings, where they focus their attention during flight, and how even subtle eye movements are governed by operational requirements.
The actor said equal emphasis was placed on military communication protocols. The performers were trained to use precise terminology and deliver commands clearly and concisely, primarily in English, reflecting the discipline followed by Air Force personnel. Any deviation from standard procedures or terminology was corrected during rehearsals to ensure authenticity.
Siddharth also noted that the training extended beyond technical aspects to include body language, posture, uniforms and overall military conduct, helping the cast portray Air Force officers with credibility.
Despite the rigorous preparation, he acknowledged that acting could not replicate the experience of actually flying a fighter aircraft. However, he said the training gave the cast a deeper understanding of the professionalism, discipline and human qualities required of military aviators.
Operation Safed Sagar, also starring Jimmy Shergill, Mihir Ahuja and Arnav Bhasin, is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on August 7.
