Independent Lok Sabha MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, has alleged that he has received death threats following a controversial skit performed in the Parliament complex highlighting the alleged misappropriation of donations made to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Speaking to reporters in Bihar’s Purnia, Yadav claimed that he was being threatened with being “burned alive” and alleged that rewards had even been announced for anyone who could kill him. He questioned why attention was being focused on him instead of those accused of allegedly misusing temple donations.
The controversy stems from a performance in which Yadav appeared dressed as a monk alongside several Opposition leaders, including members of the Congress and the Samajwadi Party. The act drew sharp criticism from the BJP, Hindu organisations and several religious leaders.
Defending the performance, Yadav said the issue was intended to highlight concerns over the alleged handling of temple donations. He also demanded a fair investigation into claims regarding the alleged disappearance of 200 kilograms of silver and Rs 3,300 crore linked to the Ram Temple, allegations that remain subject to official scrutiny.
Yadav also defended Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who appeared in the skit, saying he had consistently spoken on matters concerning Sanatan Dharma. He further referred to the alleged mistreatment of Jyotirmath Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati during the 2026 Magh Mela in Prayagraj and questioned what he described as selective outrage over religious issues.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered against Pappu Yadav, Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad on charges of allegedly hurting religious sentiments in connection with the Parliament skit.
