Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari to Meet Rebel NCPI MPs in Delhi as TMC Pushes for Disqualification

New Delhi, July 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to meet 20 former Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha MPs in New Delhi on Tuesday amid an escalating political confrontation over their continued membership of the House following their switch to the National Citizens’ Party of India (NCPI).

The meeting comes at a crucial juncture, with the Trinamool Congress intensifying its demand for the disqualification of the rebel parliamentarians under the anti-defection law.

The development follows a letter sent by TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, urging an early decision on the party’s pending petitions seeking the disqualification of the 20 MPs. Earlier, Abhishek Banerjee, along with senior TMC leaders Mahua Moitra and Kalyan Banerjee, had also met the Speaker to press for immediate action.

Although the Lok Sabha Speaker has not yet formally recognised the MPs’ move to the NCPI, separate seating arrangements have already been made for them in the Lok Sabha, reflecting the changed political alignment.

According to sources, Adhikari’s meeting with the MPs will take place at Banga Bhavan in New Delhi. While no official agenda has been released, discussions are expected to focus on matters concerning West Bengal as well as coordination during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Sources indicated that effective utilisation of Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds through better coordination with the state government could be among the issues discussed. Parliamentary strategy and the key issues relating to West Bengal that the MPs may raise during the current session are also expected to figure prominently in the deliberations.

The outcome of the Speaker’s decision on the disqualification petitions is likely to have significant political consequences for both the rebel lawmakers and the Trinamool Congress.
