Gyanehswari delivered a consistent performance throughout the competition. After successfully lifting 88kg in the snatch, she cleared 103kg, 107kg and 111kg in the clean and jerk to comfortably secure the silver medal and add to India’s strong showing in weightlifting.
South Africa’s Johanni Taljaard finished fourth with a total of 175kg, while Solomon Islands’ Jenly Tegu Wini placed fifth with 172kg.
Gyanehswari became the third Indian weightlifter to win a medal at the Glasgow Games, following Mirabai Chanu, who won gold, and Raja Muthupandi, who claimed silver.
A product of Chhattisgarh’s sports development system, Gyanehswari took up weightlifting at a young age and progressed through the national ranks with consistent performances at junior and senior national championships.
She trains at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala under the national coaching programme and has represented India at several international competitions, including the Commonwealth Championships, Asian Championships and the World Weightlifting Championships.
