Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and ex-Education Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday inaugurated the Rupnagar IAS Academy at Government Polytechnic College, Rupnagar, an initiative aimed at providing free coaching for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination and other competitive examinations.
The academy was inaugurated in the presence of Rupnagar MLA Advocate Dinesh Chadha, who described the institution as a landmark initiative for aspiring civil servants from the district and surrounding areas.
Addressing the gathering, Sisodia said quality education is the right of every student and stressed that education has the power to transform not only individual lives but also society and the nation. He lauded MLA Dinesh Chadha for taking the initiative to establish the academy, saying it would provide deserving students with access to quality coaching and expert guidance closer to home.
He noted that success in examinations such as the IAS, IPS, PCS and other competitive services requires determination, experienced mentors, quality study material and a competitive academic environment. According to Sisodia, the academy has been designed to provide all these facilities under one roof.
He also pointed out that many aspirants are compelled to move to larger cities for coaching, placing a significant financial burden on their families. The Rupnagar IAS Academy, he said, would enable students, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds, to prepare for competitive examinations without leaving their district.
Emphasising the broader purpose of education, Sisodia said academic learning should also nurture analytical thinking, leadership, social responsibility and a spirit of public service. He encouraged students to make full use of the academy’s facilities and pursue their goals with discipline and dedication.
MLA Dinesh Chadha said the academy reflects the Punjab Government’s commitment to making quality education accessible to every section of society. He expressed confidence that the institution would help talented students realise their dream of joining the civil services and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
Educationalist and Managing Director of Abhishek Educational Services, Chandigarh, Abhishek Sharma, said the academy would provide high-quality coaching for UPSC and other competitive examinations through classroom teaching as well as online classes. He added that experienced faculty, regular test series and modern study material would ensure comprehensive preparation for aspirants, including those from remote areas and working professionals.
The speakers described the academy as a significant step towards bridging the gap between rural and urban educational opportunities and expressed confidence that its students would go on to excel in India’s administrative services.
During the event, Inderjit Singh Bala presented a painting to Manish Sisodia in recognition of his contribution to the field of education.
Deputy Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, SP Arvind Meena, Nisha Chadha, Principal Dr Navneet Walia, members of the academy’s founding team, faculty members, students and other distinguished guests were also present on the occasion.
