The Lok Sabha was adjourned till Tuesday after repeated disruptions prevented any discussion on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, despite appeals from the Chair and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju for a debate on the legislation.
The House reconvened at 5 pm for a scheduled discussion on the anti-paper leak bill, but proceedings could not continue as Opposition members raised slogans and displayed placards, leading to continued disruption.
Chairing the proceedings, Krishna Prasad Tenneti urged members to participate in a meaningful debate on what he described as a bill of national importance that would impact the future of the country’s youth. He assured members that everyone would get an opportunity to present their views and concerns on the proposed legislation.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also appealed to Opposition members to allow the debate, stating that the bill had been brought after demands for a stronger law against paper leaks. He said it was the responsibility of all members to discuss and deliberate on the legislation.
Rijiju said several members, including those from the Opposition, had prepared for an extensive discussion, but accused Opposition lawmakers of disrupting proceedings despite earlier seeking a debate on the issue.
He urged Congress and other Opposition members to avoid creating disruptions and participate in a constructive discussion, emphasising that the future of lakhs of students was linked to the bill.
The minister also pointed out that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had extended the time allocated for the debate by six hours to facilitate discussion.
Tenneti further appealed to members to engage in debate, noting that copies of the proposed bill had already been circulated among all lawmakers. However, as the disruptions continued, he adjourned the House till 11 am on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha.
