Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, Manish Tewari, on Sunday called upon the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to undertake a comprehensive restoration and beautification of the entire Leisure Valley stretch, extending from the Bougainvillea Garden in Sector 2 to Sector 36.
Tewari made the appeal while inaugurating an open-air gymnasium in Leisure Valley, installed for public use following a request by the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of Sector 10.
Addressing the gathering, the Chandigarh MP said Leisure Valley and its adjoining green belt constitute one of the city’s most significant natural and recreational assets. However, he observed that several portions of the expansive green corridor currently appear neglected and inadequately maintained.
He urged Municipal Corporation Commissioner Amit Kumar and Chief Engineer Sanjay Arora to prepare and implement a holistic redevelopment plan aimed at rejuvenating the entire stretch. According to Tewari, the project should focus on improving landscaping, maintenance, and overall aesthetics to preserve the city’s unique urban green heritage.
Emphasising the importance of well-maintained public spaces, Tewari said Leisure Valley has the potential to emerge as one of the country’s finest urban green corridors if sustained attention is given to its upkeep and development. He stressed that systematic curation and regular maintenance would significantly enhance the experience of residents and visitors alike while reinforcing Chandigarh’s reputation as a city known for its planned urban landscape and green environment.
The newly inaugurated open-air gymnasium is expected to provide an additional recreational and fitness facility for local residents using the Leisure Valley area.
