A first-year medical student at Rajshri Dashrath Medical College in Ayodhya is being questioned by multiple security agencies after allegedly writing down a formula related to making explosive devices, according to sources.
The student, identified as Sarfaraz, is enrolled in the Lab Technician course at the medical college. Sources said the college administration alerted the police after the alleged notes came to light during his night duty.
Sarfaraz, a resident of Balrampur district in Uttar Pradesh, had been living in rented accommodation near the medical college. His landlord described him as a reserved individual who largely kept to himself and spent most of his time inside his room studying.
The landlord also claimed that a T-shirt bearing the slogan “Jai Shri Ram” was recovered from the student’s room and alleged that he had been seen wearing it on several occasions.
Police have reportedly recovered documents described as objectionable from the rented premises and sealed the room as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to sources, Sarfaraz has been under interrogation since Saturday by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the Intelligence Wing and other senior officials. The questioning was continuing at the time of filing this report. Authorities have not yet announced any formal charges or disclosed the findings of the investigation.
In a separate development earlier this year, Bengaluru City Police traced a hoax bomb threat email sent to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) headquarters to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. The sender was identified as Nishanth Tyagi, an unemployed man whom police described as mentally ill. Investigators also seized an electronic device allegedly used to send the threatening email, and the probe into that case remains ongoing.
