Washington, August 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
US President Donald Trump on Sunday said Washington had agreed to put on hold a planned military strike against Iran, claiming that Tehran and other Middle Eastern countries had sought a pause as the framework of a possible agreement had taken shape.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the United States remained prepared for military action but had decided to suspend the operation to give diplomacy an opportunity to progress.
“The U.S.A. is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II,” Trump wrote.
He claimed that Iran and regional countries had requested the delay because “the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to.” According to Trump, the proposed understanding would include the “Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT” and measures to address Iran’s nuclear programme.
Trump said he had agreed to cancel the attack temporarily for the “future benefit of the WORLD” and Iran’s stability, while adding that the decision remained subject to quickly reaching a final agreement.
He also claimed that Israel supported the diplomatic approach, though Trump did not provide details of the proposed deal, its timeline or confirmation from Iran or Israel regarding the claims.
Earlier, Trump had said the United States would continue applying military pressure on Iran until Tehran could no longer threaten American forces or pursue nuclear weapons capability.
Speaking after chairing a televised Cabinet meeting at Camp David, Trump said Washington would maintain pressure despite ongoing diplomatic contacts. He reiterated that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon remained the administration’s primary objective.
“They cannot have a nuclear weapon. Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said, adding that Iran had suffered significant military losses but still retained some capabilities.
