J&K LG Orders Intensified Anti-Terror Operations After Kulgam Attack

Srinagar, August 1, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday directed security agencies to intensify high-impact anti-terror operations following the Kulgam attack that killed two migrant labourers.

Chairing a high-level security meeting, Sinha called for stronger measures to neutralise terrorists and reviewed the overall security situation in the Union Territory.

The Lieutenant Governor directed Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to review Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) aimed at protecting labourers from outside Jammu and Kashmir.

He also instructed employers to ensure that workers from other states are provided insurance coverage and that their details are properly registered with local police stations and district administrations.

Sinha directed officials to ensure dignified last rites for the victims and provide all possible assistance to their families.

The meeting also reviewed security arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra and measures to further strengthen the security grid across Jammu and Kashmir.

The directions came a day after terrorists attacked migrant labourers at Kellam village in Kulgam district. The death toll rose to two on Saturday after the second injured worker from Chhattisgarh succumbed to critical injuries at a Srinagar hospital.

The deceased were identified as Deepak Rattray (24), son of Uma Shankar, and Bopinder (28), son of Dasrar, both residents of Chhattisgarh and employed as migrant workers at a brick kiln in Kulgam.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack and announced an ex gratia assistance of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the victims from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also condemned the attack, describing it as tragic and demanding strict action against those responsible.

The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticised the attack and accused Pakistan of attempting to disturb peace and economic progress in the Union Territory.

J&K BJP President Sat Sharma told IANS that terrorism was being sponsored to disrupt the improving situation in the region, particularly amid economic development and growing stability.
