A Glasgow-based Indian restaurant has faced criticism after an outline map of India printed on its napkins allegedly omitted the northeastern region of the country and showed an incomplete depiction of Jammu and Kashmir.
The issue came to light when Indian boxer and Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain visited Mister Singh’s India – The Home of Curry along with members of the Indian contingent following their Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign.
Borgohain noticed the map printed on the restaurant’s napkins and objected to the omission of the Northeast region. She said every part of India was important and should be represented accurately.
“The map on the napkins is missing our North East. Every part of India is important and should be represented,” Borgohain told IANS.
Boxing Federation of India (BFI) president Ajay Singh also raised concerns over the depiction, pointing out what he described as additional inaccuracies in the map, including an incomplete representation of Jammu and Kashmir.
Singh urged the restaurant management to withdraw the napkins and correct the map to ensure an accurate representation of India.
Mister Singh’s India, a Glasgow restaurant known for its Punjabi cuisine and Indian heritage, has not issued an official statement on the matter so far.
The restaurant, operated by four generations of the Singh family, has been serving customers in Glasgow for more than three decades and is known for combining Punjabi culinary traditions with Scottish influences.
The controversy emerged after India’s boxing contingent achieved a historic performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, winning seven gold medals — the country’s highest-ever gold tally in boxing at the event.
Indian boxers Preeti, Jaismine, Sakshi, Priya, Arundhati, Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal won gold medals, while Jadumani Singh, Lovlina Borgohain and Narender secured silver medals, giving India a total of 10 boxing medals at the Games.
