Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Sunday conferred with Uzbekistan’s highest honour, the ‘Oliy Darajali Do’stlik’ Order, by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in recognition of his contribution to strengthening India-Uzbekistan relations.
The honour was presented during Modi’s two-day State Visit to Uzbekistan and adds to the growing list of international distinctions bestowed upon the Prime Minister.
Earlier in the day, Modi held delegation-level talks with Mirziyoyev in Tashkent, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs Sibi George and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Before the talks, Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome in Tashkent, with Mirziyoyev personally receiving him. The two leaders also exchanged warm greetings.
Modi’s engagement with Uzbekistan also featured a special yoga session involving 52 practitioners from the country. Sharing glimpses of the event on X, Modi thanked the Uzbek President for promoting yoga in Uzbekistan.
“Namaste, you all have showcased excellent Yoga performance today. People of all ages are present here. I express my gratitude to my friend, the President, for connecting Uzbekistan with Yoga. Many congratulations,” he said.
Sharing a video of the session, Modi wrote, “Uzbekistan loves Yoga!”
The participants included six members of the Yoga Federation of Uzbekistan who represented their country at the First World Yogasana Championship 2026 in Ahmedabad in June.
The yoga event added a cultural dimension to Modi’s visit and highlighted the growing popularity of yoga in Uzbekistan.
Modi arrived in Uzbekistan on Saturday for his fourth visit to the Central Asian nation. On his arrival in Tashkent, he thanked Mirziyoyev for personally welcoming him at the airport, describing the gesture as reflective of the depth and growing momentum in bilateral ties.
The latest Uzbek honour follows Indonesia’s decision in July to confer its highest honour, the ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’, on Modi.
