Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the work of Mumbai-based Krishna Seshadri, who has created a specialised website aimed at making Indian history easier and more engaging for people to explore.
Addressing the 137th episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Modi recalled coming across a social media post announcing an initiative to make history interesting.
The Prime Minister said the idea was simple: visitors to the website could select a particular year and find out which rulers or dynasties controlled different parts of India during that period.
“I found it quite interesting; so I thought that I should get more information about this. I came to know that this was done by Mumbai’s Krishna Seshadri ji. Interestingly, Krishna Ji has kept a very simple name for the website — www.bharatrajya.com,” Modi said.
He said Seshadri was neither a technology professional nor a history teacher, but had used technology to create a platform for exploring India’s past.
Speaking during the programme, Seshadri said that although he came from an engineering background, he had always been interested in history. He decided to develop the website to introduce people to the major empires and rulers of India.
Asked by Modi which three historical personalities he would like to meet, Seshadri named Rajendra Chola, Hemu and Tribhuvana Mahadevi.
He said he would like to learn from Rajendra Chola about the architecture of the Chola period. Hemu, he noted, had risen from being an ordinary trader to building an empire and had won 22 of the 23 battles he fought. His third choice was Tribhuvana Mahadevi of Odisha’s Bhauma-Kara dynasty.
“It seems that you are living history. You are completely immersed in history,” Modi told him.
The Prime Minister also said he had visited Seshadri’s website and appreciated the provision allowing users to suggest additions or corrections, calling it a useful feature for improving the resource.
